# 5. Customize Your Knight
Unless determined otherwise by the Gamemaster, all starting knights have the same liege lord, Robert of Salisbury. Even if characters come from other regions of Logres, they have formed a bond training as squires in their lord’s hall and swear homage to the same liege.
Current Home is the lord’s main castle (caput major); in the case of Count Robert, this is the Castle of the Rock in Sarum.
Assume your character is 21 years old. You may give your character some additional experience by aging them up to four years.
For each year of aging, select one:
- Distribute 5 points among the character’s Skills. You may not raise any Skill above 15 in this manner.
- Add 1 point to any Trait (to a maximum of 19) or Passion (maximum 20).
- Add 1 point to STR, SIZ, DEX, CON, or APP, to a maximum of 18.
All knights start with the same basic kit:
- Arming Sword, Lance, 4 Spears, one other Weapon of choice, Dagger
- One charger, two rouncys, and one sumpter
- Basic armor appropriate for your Period. During the Boy King Period, this means a mail hauberk, aketon, nasal helm, and kite shield (10 points of armor + 6 points of shield protection)
In addition to your combat equipment, your first character has the following:
- Wooden Chest: Comes with a simple lock and key; store your personal goods here.
- Clothing: Ordinary clothing, varying in style for each Period; nice set of clothing worth £1 for special occasions; cloak for bad weather; wool cloak for cold weather
- Travel Gear: Two sleeping blankets and towels; eating and cooking utensils; fire-making kit; bandages; pair of panniers; several sacks with drawstrings to store everything; large canvas tarpaulin; pack frame for sumpter and saddlebags;
- Horse Gear: Two riding saddles and tack; one war saddle and tack; four horse blankets; feed bag; currying brushes; hobbles; hoof pick; horse towels; rope
Finally, roll once on the Beginner’s Luck Table.
